Libraries, book depositories, and record centers all struggle to force precious book collections and records into their shrinking storage space. The solution is the XTend High-Bay shelving system which Spacesaver offers in both STATIC and MOBILE options.
XTend® Mobile High-Bay Storage Systems
XTend Mobile High Bay storage was developed by the high-density storage experts at Spacesaver. It combines the concept of High Bay shelving with high-density mobile technology and was created specifically for off-site archival storage. The product has been tested through 30,000 operating cycles and has shown that the construction exceeds the most stringent NARA* fire suppression standards. * National Archives and Records Administration
Case Study: XTend Mobile High Bay Frees up Space for Wake Forest University
Wake Forest University’s library was using an outside vendor to store their overflow journals and books. This company charges a storage fee per linear foot, but also a retrieval fee for each book that needed to be accessed and then brought back to the library.
The university purchased a warehouse on campus and decided to move their off-site materials into this space to save on rental and retrieval fees charged by the vendor. To maximize the height of this warehouse, which had approximately 50-foot high ceilings, XTend Mobile High-Bay was installed. The new archival off-site storage system helped to save money but also enabled the library to move even more books off-site to make room for more student gathering spaces at the library.
Static High-Bay Shelving
Static High Bay shelving is intelligently designed and built for stable storage of book trays and archival boxed records for optimal flexibility, space efficiency, economy, accessibility, protection, safety and containment.
Spacesaver XTend High Bay Storage and Shelving Systems are constructed of reinforced cold rolled steel and adjust on vertical increments of 1-1⁄64″ (26mm) without any tools. The one-piece, welded upright frames and a patented side-shelf support system provides structural integrity that isn’t dependent on the shelves themselves.
The powder coat paint used to coat the shelving does not off-gas and is safe for the long term storage of all media. Construction exceeds the most stringent NARA* fire suppression standards. * National Archives and Records Administration
