Spacesaver® Mobile storage systems help maximize storage capacity in any available space. Spacesaver® High-density mobile storage can provide significantly greater storage capacity per square foot of floor space, often three times more, than conventional filing and shelving. Rather than having fixed aisles between each shelf or cabinet, mobile allows you to put the shelving on a carriage that is mounted on wheeled carriages that travel on rails. To open and close aisles, we offer three modes of operation; Manual, Mechanically Assisted and Powered.

The ActivRAC mobile carriage and rail system enables industrial warehouse racks to move side-to-side, eliminating empty aisles and maximizing square footage, while still providing 100% accessibility. ActivRAC accommodates existing industrial shelves, industrial racking and pallet racking with a load capacity ranging from 7,000 lbs. to 30,000 lbs.
Case Study: ActivRAC Mobile Racking Gets Torpedoes Moving
The Naval Undersea Museum’s permanent collection included a large group of old torpedoes. They were stored on conventional industrial shelving that was not seismically protected and maneuvering around the shelving with a forklift was becoming difficult and dangerous.
To more effectively store the torpedo collection, which included torpedo’s that weighed over 6,000 lbs, ActivRAC 16 was installed. Empty aisles were eliminated by mobilizing the racking and the additional space that was created allowed for better forklift access and maneuverability.
The XTend system from Spacesaver is designed specifically for high-density off-site storage. It combines the innovative high-bay shelving concept with high-density mobile technology. The XTend High Bay product has been tested through 30,000 operating cycles, construction exceeds the most stringent NARA* fire suppression standards. * National Archives and Records Administration.
Case Study: Wake Forest University Saves Money with XTend Mobile High Bay
Wake Forest University was housing their library journals and other overflow materials in an off-site storage facility operated by an outside vendor. The vendor charged by the linear foot to store anything, but also each time a book needed to be checked out of the warehouse and brought to a patron at the library. They staff were faced with a decision, whether to keep using this service, or to bring the material back on campus in order to alleviate costs.
The university ended up installing XTend Mobile High-Bay in an warehouse that they owned. The system helped reduce costs, but also created the opportunity to house even more library materials off-site and free up space in their library for new social spaces.
