Campus Libraries

Libraries are attempting to make the best of both worlds by keeping books onsite but also trying to free up space to accommodate new study, collaboration areas and makerspaces. Let’s explore some solutions we can provide:

The Evolving Library

Students are leveraging their libraries different today than they were even five or ten years ago. One thing remains true the library is still relevant across campuses — just how they are being used continues to change.

Some students spend at least two hours per day, while others spend up to four or more hours per day. With that, they need comfort, variety and a space to call their own while they are there. As well as inspiring spaces.

Library Shelving With Purpose

Campus libraries are evolving in finding the balance of keeping some of their collections on-site and others to move to off-site archival storage (that can easily be retrieved when a student needs the material).

Often times the library shelving is referred to the stacks. There are becoming less and less stacks through the library but more times than not these stacks are evolving in design to be more of a statement, more functional and actually work with the design of the library.

Library Shelving Options

Make the stacks more visually appealing to encourage browsing and contribute to the building’s bright, airy design. Spacesaver’s illuminated library shelving can provide the perfect solution.

Compact Storage in Archives and Special Collections

A university’s archives and special collections are housed in a secure, climate-controlled area. The archives area can make efficient use of space with a Spacesaver mechanical-assist compact storage system, in which shelving moves on rails.

End-panels can be customized in myriad ways – wood to match a historical building, recycled materials to help achieve sustainability goals, university branding to help convey your institution’s values.

Off-Site Collections Storage

Libraries and archives are trying to fit an increasing number of irreplaceable materials into a decreasing amount of storage space. This is of particular concern for institutions that need to maintain and expand their collections while offering more open, flexible workspaces such as collaborative work areas, classrooms, makerspaces, and meeting rooms.
